Andy Rubin To Leave As Leader Of Android For New Challenges

This was unexpected. About an hour ago at 18:08, +Larry Page posted on Google+ that +Andy Rubin will step down and +Sundar Pichai will replace him as the head of the +Android team.

Going forward, Sundar Pichai will lead Android, in addition to his existing work with Chrome and Apps.

Interesting, as now the responsible for Chrome, is also the head of Android OS.
After seeing this Chrome Android at the developer building, and the Chromebook Pixel with a touchscreen, it's no wonder that rumors are now flying, saying Android and Chrome will be mixed together. ChromDroid or Androme? And let's not forget about Apps, which also Sundar Pichai is in charge of.
However Andy Rubin said, a few days ago, that a merger of Chrome and Android will not happen anywhere soon.
The news hit the tech-world without warning. There were no serious rumors about Andy Rubin stepping back.

The mysterious "...more moonshots please!" is given more to think of. Will Andy power up Google Glasses or the self-driving car? Both could be the case. Or it's just something Larry said to loosen up a little bit of that serious stuff in that post.

We'll have to see and wait. But this Google I/O 2013 will be exciting for sure. Wow.
